15 Common Interview Questions for Freshers – and How to Answer Them – The OmniJobs blog

Your first interviews can feel stressful, but most companies ask a similar set of questions. Prepare these 15 and you will walk in far more confident.

Use the STAR method

For any “tell me about a time” question, answer in four parts: Situation, Task, Action, Result. Use college projects, internships, events or part-time work as examples.

About you

  1. Tell me about yourself. 60–90 seconds: education → key skills → one project or achievement → why this role.
  2. What are your strengths? Pick two relevant to the job and give a quick example of each.
  3. What is your weakness? Choose a real but fixable one and explain what you are doing to improve it.
  4. Where do you see yourself in 3–5 years? Show ambition within the company’s field — growth, skills, responsibility.
  5. Why should we hire you? Match your skills and attitude to the job description in 3 points.

About the job and company

  1. Why do you want to work here? Mention something specific you learned about the company.
  2. What do you know about this role? Summarise the main responsibilities in your own words.
  3. Are you comfortable with shifts, travel or relocation? Answer honestly — it saves trouble later.
  4. What salary do you expect? Give a researched range for freshers in that role and city, and show flexibility.

Behaviour and situations

  1. Tell me about a challenge you faced. Use STAR and focus on what you did.
  2. Describe a time you worked in a team. Show your role and how you handled disagreements.
  3. How do you handle pressure or deadlines? Give an example: exams, project submissions, events.
  4. What did you learn from your final-year project? Explain the problem, your contribution and the result.
  5. How do you learn a new skill? Mention a course, tool or skill you learned on your own recently.

The last question

  1. Do you have any questions for us? Always ask 1–2: “What does success look like in the first 3 months?” or “How is the team structured?”

Final checklist

  • Research the company for 15 minutes
  • Keep a printed or PDF copy of your resume ready
  • For online interviews: test camera, mic and internet; quiet, well-lit room
  • Dress formally and join 5 minutes early
Make sure your resume gets you the interview first
